Well, there’s one common misconception that is associated with active RFID readers. It is believed that higher read range is much better in active RFID readers. To make it more clear, there’s nothing as such.

Higher Read range is not good for many applications. E.g. if you want
active RFID for Gate/Door Entry/Exit applications and read range is
10-20 meters, then even someone passing by or standing in the lobby
may be read by the Reader and gate/door lock will open without the
knowledge of the person.

The aim of RFID is to read the people nearby and not read the people
away from the reader. Some active RFID technologies that offer higher
range cannot assure a fixed read range, The reader offering 10meters
may also in certain conditions like Open hall, can give up to 20
meters range.

In Active RFID tracking systems, The location of the reader is
considered as the location of the Tag. So if a Reader installed in
Room1 also reads tags in Room2 , then you cannot say if the person is
actually in Room1 or Room2. Hence you should have 2 different readers
in Room1 & Room2 each with read range limited to area of the Room.

BioEnable has launched the latest in the Active RFID system .. 2.4GHz thin Active RFID tags and Readers.

AeroTag Active RFID Reader – 2.4GHz

The 2.45 GHz Active Reader is used in systems, which integrate the active tags. It is built around innovative 0.18µm CMOS circuits, with very high density of integration. This technological breakthrough allows for a low cost, and size constrained design.
The reader can be fitted with a standard rubber-duck antenna, like on the picture, for 100-150 ft communication range. Expanding the reading distance and shaping the RF field can be done with sector antennas provided by Bioenable. A Standard RS232 or RS485 interface is provided. Other versions with interfaces to TCP/IP WiFi/TJ45 or GPRS are also available.
In Its basic configuration the anti-collision rate is in the range of 80-100 tags per second. One single Reader can operate thousands of tags.
Several topologies are available, from simple start networks to complex clusters, for operation in dense controllermode. A software demo application is available together with the full command set description. The filmware of the controller is expandable in order to protect the customers investments.Health And safety is a major consideration. The active Reader is believed to be totally harmless to other adjacent electronic equipment, and to any consideration of health and safety.

Applications of Active 2.4 Mhz Reader

* Access control
* Medical healthcare
* animals
* sensor networks
* artwork protection
* Airports
* hydroelectric and nuclear power stations
* logistics
* item management
* fleet management
* traceability
* anti-counterfeiting
* micro-localisation
* security solutions
* Frequency Band : 2.4GHz~2.48GHz

Temperature : Operating-10 degree celsius; Storage-40 deg cel~70 degree cel
Radio Regulation:ETS300-440 Rx Class 3;TxClass 8; Duty Cycle Class 2
Safety: EN50364:2001(Limitation of human exposure to EM fields)

Has been tested compatible with operation in near proximity to WiFi,
GSM, Bluetooth, DECT.

Protection : IP65 casing is available.

BioEnable’s new innovation AeroTag Active RFID Readers & Tags has been selected for demonstration in HeadStart.in, Banglore

Headstart (Headstart.in) is a showcase of most exciting products and technology in India – with a big difference. Unlike several existing showcase events that bring together VCs and Entrepreneurs together, Headstart and co-located Compute 2008 covers the entire innovation lifecycle in one place. This means participation from ALL the players in the innovation lifecycle: academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, marketers, large companies, venture capitalists and customers, which we believe is essential to accelerate the pace of innovation in India. See the links below to find out how you can participate and benefit from the event. The Agenda is a good place to get a bird’s eye view.

BioEnable’s new innovation called AeroTag – Active RFID Readers & cards has been selected in the Embedded & Silicon systems category in Headstart 2008.

AeroTag is a Active RFID based products designed and developed by BioEnable with its R&D team in Pune, India. AeroTag consist of compact credi card size tags with inbuilt coin cell battery to transmit its ID to Readers in the long range of 10 to 50 meters.

AeroTag products have been used by Hyderabad Municipal Corporations, Avaya Global and more then 25 customers in last 1 Years. BioEnable is the only company in India to develop its own Active RFID technology.

Mr. Pradeep Bhatia, MD, BioEnable will present the AeroTag products to large audience of academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, marketers, large companies, venture capitalists and customers in HeadStart Event in Bangalore on 19th january 2008.

BioEnable also won the award of Best Emerging Company of the Year 2007 , from Frost & Sullivan in New Delhi for Electronics Access Control systems.

AeroTag active RFID system selected by Avaya Global branch in Pune, India for employee tracking.

Avaya Global a leading VoIP company worldwide has selected BioEnable AeroTag technology to track their employees.

Employee tracking is a growing requirments for corporates for Security and data collection. In high end systems environment maintainance and control over staff is necessary to avoid any mistakes that will lead to downtime.

Avaya employees carry a Active RFID card , and when they enter and move out of the important locations like Server rooms, Canteen they are tracked automatically without employees having to display their cards to any reader.

Such systems are more user friendly and without knowledge of employees , corporates can do precise tracking of what employees are doing, are they in right location at tight time. This increase time efficiency and prevent frauds, time theft and ensure security of the installation.
